The idea for On the Rise Development has been brewing in my brain for several years.  Finally–it is all coming together! Welcome to On the Rise Development!

People are often perplexed by my job. I typically describe my work as leadership development. My days consist of what, to most people, sounds like a bunch of random stuff–a little instructional design, a few assessments, a smattering of facilitation, some teaching, and a bit of coaching.

Many people ask me, “Does it all make a difference?”  I like to think it does. If there is one thing that I have learned working directly with leaders—we expect A LOT from our leaders.  We expect them to be approachable AND hold people accountable AND be a risk taker and financially savvy AND emotionally intelligent AND an inspirational speaker AND a mediator AND a coach AND walk on water AND part the Red Sea…you get the idea.  The pressure is enormous for leaders to deliver and most do deliver results. HOW those results are achieved makes a difference. Often well meaning, but stressed out, leaders leave disillusioned and frustrated employees in their wake.

According to Chief Learning Officer, some sources estimate that 50 billion dollars are spent annually on leadership development. Yet, when we send leaders to class or for coaching and we typically see incremental results.

Leaders are overwhelmed by the myriad of things they need to think about and practice to be a good leader. On the Rise Development is focused on simple tools and effective courses that allow leaders to practice as they work and learn on their own schedule.  When we develop confident skilled people leaders, we have happier employees and more successful businesses.

A few years ago, I discovered my passion for interpreting feedback assessments. It is easy for a leader to become overwhelmed by the amount and variety of feedback that comes through an assessment. There is something satisfying about helping a leader zero in on the critical few items that can lead to more effective leadership.
